Join Wildlife News Travel on this 13 day exploration of some of Indonesia’s best wildlife locations. We will be visiting National Parks on some of the nations 13,000 islands. From komodo dragons through to orangutans and tigers the countries offers some real gems for lovers of wildlife.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Jakarta Transfer.

One of our guide will meet you at Jakarta Airport for transfer to a local hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and explore. At the evening dinner you will formally meet your tour guide who will go through the full itinerary for the tour. (D)

Day 2: Tanjung Putting National Park.

A morning domestic flight from Jakarta to Borneo. From the airport there is a boat transfer through the Tanjung Putting National Park along the Sekonyer River.

We check into the hotel in the heart of the jungle and mangrove swamps. Once checked into the hotel we have the chance to relax and spend some time watching the wildlife in the area. Ecotourism is important in this national park and the wildlife is used to people visiting. Expect to see a range of primates around our hotel including macaques, monkeys and even orangutans. Day 3: Tanjung Putting National Park.

We spend today aboard our boat exploring the jungle from the river. The Sekonyer River itself is full of life and we’ll get to see species such as crocodilles, water monitors and along the banks look out for owa-owa, bekatan, orangutans and a whole host of bird-life. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Tanjung National Park.

Our final day exploring this 415,000 hectare of national park. Today we’ll spend the day hiking in the jungle. While the national park is protected there is still some illegal logging happening in the park. We may get the chance to see some of the impacts of this illegal activity on the park and discuss the consequences of the logging on the wildlife in the park. We will also have the chance to call in on one of the many research stations that work in the national park. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Borneo – Sumatra transfer.

We start early today to get our morning flight from Borneo to the island of Sumatra. Once we reach Sumatra we head for the Way Kambas National Park.

This is one of the oldest national parks in Indonesia and is home to a number of endangered species. Way Kambas is home to the few remaining Sumatran tigers, Sumatran elephants and Sumatran rhinos.We check into our hotel located on the perimeter of the national park. The remainder of the day is set aside to recover from the early start, flight and 2 hour drive from the airport. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Way Kambas National Park.

There is an optional bird walk before breakfast for those who like an early start. Over 400 species of birds have been recorded at the park and this is an ideal opportunity to explore with a local bird expert. While you’re out looking for birds you will almost certainly spot a number of the 50 mammal species that live in the park.

There is a morning visit to the local rhino sanctuary where you will have the opportunity to come close to some rescued rhino’s. the afternoon is spent at a local elephant conservation centre. Here you will be able to interact with Sumatran elephants and take an elephant back ride.

The evening is spent exploring the national park as dusk and dark descends. You’ll experience and entirely different atmosphere than during the day and see a new range of species including bats and bush babies. The jungle has it’s own nocturnal wildlife ecosystem for you to experience. (B, L, D).

Day 7: Way Kambas National Park.

We spend today afloat on a boat safari on the Way Kanan River. This river trip will offer some excellent opportunities to view the national park and it’s wildlife especially it’s birds. There will also be a trek through the jungle during the day to explore further inland. we can never be sure exactly what will be spotted but tigers and elephants are known to live in the area together with rhinos. Day 8: Way Kambas National Park.

We have two bush walks today in the rain forest. This is our last day in the Way Kambas National Park. Our target species today are wild orangutans, wild elephants and possibly tigers. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Sumatra to Bali transfer.

The bulk of the day is spent on transfers between the island of Sumatra and Bali. Once at Bali we transfer to our hotel and the remainder of the day is spent relaxing. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Flores.

We take a morning flight from Bali to the island of Flores. Here you can spend the day relaxing on the beach, snorkeling or experiencing the local cultures. (B, L, D)

Day 11: Komodo National Park.

We spend a day exploring the Komodo National Park and the giant lizards that roam the area. (B, L, D)

Day 12: Flores to Bali transfer.

We have a morning at leisure before our flights back to Bali. (B, L, D)

Day 13: Transfer to Bali Airport.

Our driver picks you up from the hotel and transfer you to Bali airport for your flight home. Please note that you will need to arrive at Jakarta but depart from Bali when booking you airline tickets. (B)

Flight SQ319 leaving Heathrow on Thursday 1st September at 18.30 will arrive Jakarta at 16.05 on Friday 2nd September.

Flight SQ941 leaving Denpasar on Wednesday 14th September at 09.15 will land Heathrow at 19.10 same day.
