If you are a lover of wildlife and nature then obviously you head outdoors at every opportunity to experience nature in it’s full glory. An important part of going outdoors is to ensure that you have an up to date and accurate map. The Ordnance Survey (OS) leads the field in the UK for this and now they are offering big savings until 8th December.
Unlimited prints of Explorer and Landranger maps.
Subscription to the OS Getamap service will now only cost £19.99 and it will allow you to print out unlimited A4 maps of the Explorer (1:25 000) and Landranger (1: 50 000) map series. Not only that but there’s lots of pre-plotted routes for walking and cycling. There’s also driving directions and the ability to share routes with an active community.
The service will also estimate your walking time and give you guidance on elevations climbed on your walk. Once you’ve plotted your route and printed it out you can also export your route in KML or GPX format for your GPS device.
The OS subscription service really does offer an exceptional service and is ideal for all those days out. It means you are not constantly having to buy large maps every time you go to a new area. Just print out the area you are visiting.
OS Getamap subscription drops to £19.99 until 8th December.
The OS subscription service used to cost £30.00 a year to join – which I thought was very good value. Now though the OS is testing a new subscription cost of £19.99 and this new test pricing will be available until 8th December.
The new price of £19.99 makes it exceptionally good value for money when compared to buying paper maps. The price drop comes at a great time for Christmas gifts for outdoor lovers. The information I have received from the OS does not say whether prices will be going back up or extended at the lower price so it’s well worth considering buying the annual subscription before the 8th December.
I regularly print out A4 maps from the service and then I laminate them at home for all weather use. A cheap laminator can cost under £20 now and lamination pockets are just pennies each.
One of the other things I find useful about the subscription service is that you can quickly check out the weather along the route before you set off. This is especially useful if you are heading to the mountains.
Free beanie hat with OS subscription.
While the annual OS subscription has decreased in the new price test the price of individual maps have increased from £1.00 per A4 map to £2.49 per A4 map. The individual map price increase means that the subscription is even better value for money.
Not only do you get great value mapping services but the OS is also giving away a free beanie hat with every new subscription while stocks of the hat lasts.
