Sadly it’s been reported that Hope the bear, star of the BBC documentary series Bear Family and Me, has been shot by a hunter.

The hunter reported that he had shot and killed a yearling female bear – the only known yearling in the area was Hope and here mother who had been radio-collared had been recorded as frequenting a known hunter baiting spot. Presumably Hope and her little sister Faith was with her on the visits.

Hope made her public début in January 2010 when her birth in the wild was broadcast over the internet by webcam. She then became a star by being one of the main characters in the BBC documentary series Bear Family and Me which was filmed by Gordon Buchanan.

Hope was shot aged just 20 months old.
