Olympus 8 x 40 DPSI Binocular
For me the Olympus 8 x 40 DPSI is one of the better budget priced binoculars. I know you can get much cheaper than this but if you are looking for quality lens then the DPSI really adds value to the binoculars.
Having an 8 times magnification on a 40 mm lens means you get plenty of light going through the lenses and reaching the eye. The magnification means that the binoculars have quite a close field of view and so are ideal if a lot of your nature watching is undertaken in wooded areas and you need to see things that are relatively close. The large lenses also helps in wooded areas where you might have dappled ir reduced light.
You will almost certainly need to invest in a better neck-strap and the case is not particularly robust although it will keep out the dust and protect the binoculars against occasional knocks. Olympus had to save money somewhere to bring this set into the budget range and I prefer the cost cutting on the accessories rather than the binoculars and lenses themselves.
The binoculars have a wide field of view and this makes it much easier to keep flying birds – or fleeing animals – in sight.
The lenses are coated to reduce reflection and the do offer some good clear images.
If you are just starting out in nature viewing or buying a pair of binoculars for a young person then these are great value.
