raise money to save hedgehogsOur 2019 Christmas appeal this year is to raise funds to buy 100 sacks of hedgehog food for local hedgehog hospitals. Please help with a small donation. Together we can help hedgehogs survive the winter months.

Many volunteer wildlife rescuers are currently very busy with lots of under-nourished juvenile hedgehogs. A mild year means many hedgehogs have had 2 litters. Those hoglets born in the autumn have not had a chance to put on weight to hibernate.

RSPB Scotland response to general licence restriction on South Lanarkshire Estate

27/11/2019 0 By wildfeed

Ian Thomson, RSPB Scotland’s Head of Investigations said: “RSPB Scotland welcomes today’s announcement by Scottish Natural Heritage of a general licence restriction covering the Leadhills Estate in South Lanarkshire. This area has a long and appalling history of confirmed raptor persecution incidents involving the illegal use of traps, banned pesticides and the shooting of protected species, including hen harriers and red kites.”

“While the imposition of this sanction is positive news, it is becoming increasingly clear that the threat of such a penalty is no deterrent to those whose sole motivation is the maximising of grouse numbers. Until sporting estates face the potential removal of the right to shoot, we do not believe there is a sufficient deterrent to those who continue to slaughter our birds of prey. We call upon the Scottish Government to introduce a robust system of licensing where the right to shoot grouse is dependent on legal and sustainable management.”
