Christmas 2019 Appeal

raise money to save hedgehogsOur 2019 Christmas appeal this year is to raise funds to buy 100 sacks of hedgehog food for local hedgehog hospitals. Please help with a small donation. Together we can help hedgehogs survive the winter months.

Many volunteer wildlife rescuers are currently very busy with lots of under-nourished juvenile hedgehogs. A mild year means many hedgehogs have had 2 litters. Those hoglets born in the autumn have not had a chance to put on weight to hibernate.

Sea defence works at Fairbourne

Work to repair the sea defences for a coastal village in North Wales starts next week.

Contractors for Natural Resources Wales will install around 20,000 tonnes of rock armour to protect the village of Fairbourne at Friog corner.

The work, undertaken by Jones Bros, will start in early November 2018 and is due to be completed by the Spring 2019, depending on the weather.

The work will be done in a way that minimises disruption to local residents and NRW apologises in advance for any disruption.

For 18 weeks approximately, while lorries are delivering the rocks for the defence, Penrhyn Drive south will be operated as a one way system.

Sian Williams, Head of Operations in North Wales for Natural Resources Wales said: “We are committed to maintaining and monitoring Fairboune’s flood defence in the short and medium term to help reduce the risk of flooding.

“Repairing the defences at Friog corner is part of this ongoing commitment.

“We are grateful to the local community for their cooperation while the work is being done.”

Anyone concerned about flooding can check their flood risk and register for free flood warnings by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or by visiting

NRW works in partnership with Cyngor Gwynedd and the community through the Fairbourne Moving Forward Project Board.
