A powerful, tall biennial which is able to grow to 6 feet or more and often seen on road sides and rough ground . The plant and seed heads persist into winter, providing food for wild birds and best dried flower heads for flower arrangers. The flowers are popular sources of pollen and nectar for bees and other insects.
Sow from overdue summer onwards, scattering sparingly to the growing location, preferably on disturbed soil.
The plants aren’t fussy to soil type.
